G. Ibragimov’s story “One Episode from the Life of Young People” in the literary criticism of the 1910s.

Abstract: 

The paper analyzes critical articles devoted to the story of the famous Tatar writer, public and state figure G. Ibragimov “One Episode from the Life of Young People” (1909), written by the author in his early literary career. In the 1910s, this work attracted the attention of scientific critical thought, when famous literary critics, such as J. Validi, H. Iskanderov, N. Ghasri, Z. Nurkin, etc., took part in the literary dispute. The paper determines the principles, on which the evaluation of the story is based, and, in the context of the Tatar social and philosophical thought, reveals the problems, raised in the story, defining the ideals of the national intelligentsia. The paper identifies the ways of serving the Tatar people and the nation, as well as the ways of updating and reforming the Tatar society. Along with researching the artistic features of the story, the paper focuses on its content as the scientific critical thought influences the spiritual and cultural renovation of the era. In this plane, we consider the social and national value of the story. Analyzing G. Ibragimov’s story “One Episode from the Life of Young People” in the context of the literature of those times, we establish its connection with the works of contemporary writers and emphasize the influence of the story on G. Ibragimov’s work of the 1910s, although this story was one of his first attempts at literary writing. The principles of historicism, hermeneutics and comparative historical methods, used in the study of the scientific-critical material, made it possible for us to determine the prospects for the development and renewal of “Ibragimov Studies”.
