DEVELOPMENT OF ROCK PIGEON (COLUMBA LIVIA) CHICKS IN KAZAN

Abstract:

The process of growth and differentiation in the postembryonic development of the rock pigeon nestlings is uneven and phased. The body parts of the hatching chicks are formed to a different degree which affects the future rate of growth in postembryogenesis. Despite the differenсe in intensity of the body parts growth, they are subject to the same rhythm of development. The 2nd-3rd days are characterized by the maximum growth progress rate, the maximum increase happens during the 1st week of development. It is typical for altricial and semi-precocial birds. The rate of mass and dimension growth decreases gradually. By the end of the nesting period, the chicks do not reach their definitive size, their growth continues in the post-nesting period.
