Peculiarities of foreign policy discourse

Abstract:

The paper researches foreign policy discourse as a kind of political discourse: its peculiarities and functions, concepts and genres. Methodologically, the work is based on the theses of social constructionism and critical discourse analysis. The author proceeds from the fact that the main function of foreign policy discourse is a struggle for power. This function is performed by different linguistic means applied in foreign policy communication. Recently, the issues of foreign relations have been the focus of world attention, which makes this study relevant. Up to now, foreign policy discourse has not been studied in terms of its peculiarities, its functions and typical mechanisms of discursive construction of international relations, which accounts for the novelty of the study.

Key words:

foreign policy discourse, discursive construction, social actor, concept, genre.
