Linguistic means of expressing the semantics of the elusive in the early poetry of O.E.Mandelstam

Abstract:

The article discusses linguistic means of conveying rapid and transitional states in people and nature, objects and phenomena which are difficult to distinguish and define. To define these phenomena, states, objects the article uses the concept of “the elusive”. It is noted that the semantics of the elusive should not be identified with the semantic category of definiteness – indefiniteness. Based on O.E.Mandelstam's poetry of 1906–1915 the article demonstrates that the semantics of the elusive can be expressed by various linguistic units and by means of context.
