Lexicographical solutions in the description of lingvoculture: Russian dictionaries vs foreign dictionaries

Abstract:

Each linguoculture has a set of units containing cultural information which is necessary for successful communication in the context of a particular linguocultural community. In a situation of intercultural communication these units represent a certain difficulty for foreigners caused by the lack of general (background / cultural) knowledge, therefore, they need an adequate lexicographical description. The units under discussion have been a subject of lexicographical research for a long time. Consequently, quite a number of lexicographical works with their description have appeared during the last few decades. The article provides a comparative analysis of Russian dictionaries describing linguistic culture of other countries, and foreign dictionaries, reflecting their own linguistic culture. The main criterion, used to compare the discussed lexicographical works, is their communicative orientation. Its presence or absence is determined by the lexicographic interpretation of the cultural component which these units comprise.

Key words:
