Semantics and axiology of the categories beauty – ugliness in Tatar phraseological units

Abstract: 

The article examines the semantics and axiology of the categories beauty – ugliness in Tatar phraseological units. These esthetic categories represent values and anti-values of the inner and outside world of man. In terms of gender, the lexeme "матур (beautiful)" usually means different types of beauty in Tatar girls and women: natural beauty and unnatural beauty. The category of beauty expresses aesthetic and traditional values, as well as gender differences. It is associated with the binary opposition: lad – girl, man – woman and the like.
