Ways of expressing the multiplicity of agents in the Tatar language: Grammatical and semantic aspects

Abstract:

The paper deals with basic grammatical and lexical ways of expressing event structures in Tatar from the perspective of the multiplicity of agents. It also describes the basic inventory of specialized devices for representing predicate plurality. The authors analyze semantic features and typical collocations of multi-agent verbs expressing actions performed by a large number of discrete agents, which are homogeneous in some respects. They demonstrate that multi-agent verbs can denote the idea of action or existence in different aspects and have a wide range of specific values. The study is based on the data of Tatar National Corpus “Туган тел”.

Key words:

Tatar verb, event structure, reciprocal, multi-agent verbs.
