On passive learning and certain stereotypes in foreign language acquisition


The article deals with the issues of differentiated instruction and assessment in foreign language learning with respect to individual difference variables. It considers different views on the time and duration of passive learning (H.Palmer, S.Krashen, J.Asher) as well as certain stereotypes in early language learning and in assessment of communicative skills of learners belonging to different personality types. The article concludes by noting the need for measures to improve individual language learning by taking into account students’ individual psychological differences in order to assess their readiness for speech production.
