On economy and politics by means of phraseology


Characteristic features of the use of precedent texts are largely determined by media conditions: this is a common information field of different media tools, the need for a rapid response to the "hot" events, etc. Instant reaction, which is especially characteristic of non-print media, results in the use of various clichés, in duplication of the most successful expressive nominations. Phraseological units are an active means for conveying the author’s attitude to certain events. This article considers the way some events in political and economic life receive names in the language of Russian mass media by means of phraseological units and proverbs. In particular, it highlights linguistic features of media coverage of events in Ukraine.
