Baudouin de Courtenay´s studies of language nature and its essence

Abstract: 

The article deals with Baudouin de Courtenay’s studies of language nature and its essence from the perspective of modern linguistics. Baudouin de Courtenay and the Kazan School were characterized by the keen interest in the issues of general linguistics, by the desire to generalize linguistic phenomena. It allowed him and his followers to identify a number of issues related to cognitive linguistics and pragmalinguistics which became relevant only in the late 20th and the early 21th centuries. The novelty of the article is based on a new view of Baudouin’s studies through the prism of language images and language role in the process of cognition.
