Precedent phenomena as a stylistic tool for creating expression in the Internet communication

Abstract: 

The article shows the influence of the main extralinguistic characteristics of the Internet (anonymity and carnivalization) on creation of a user’s virtual image. The Internet space determines verbal behaviors of users who want to make their messages expressive. One of the popular ways of making users’ speech more expressive is a stylistic language game based on precedent phenomena. Precedent phenomena are a part of the Russian language world image. They characterize "the cultural minimum" of users. The most common technique of enhancing the expressive side of precedent phenomena is literalization with additional effect of failed expectations.
