Musical folklore possibilities for the development of teenagers’ civic culture

Abstract: 

This article discusses the issue of the development of civic culture in teenagers by means of musical folklore and analyzes school music curricula based on musical folklore. We conducted an experiment with participation of the seventh graders from Kazan high comprehensive school No177 with in-depth study of certain subjects. The content of the experiment was based on the authors’ civil patriotic program "Children of Russian Schools", aimed at the development of the personal civic culture and revealing the rich world of folklore. The level of the civil culture development was defined by diagnosing the students’ interests in a certain area of musical art, and conducting a survey to identify their level of knowledge and skills in the field of folklore. The results of the experimental work prove that folk music has great educational potential for the development of civic culture.
