Activities of short and central courses for the implementation of the Tatar language

Abstract: 

This article presents a historical survey of the activities of Tatar short courses and societies for Russians in the 1920s-1930s as well as Central courses in training Tatar experts. The sources show that all commissariats, different institutions: unions, trusts, clubs, banks, publishing houses, editorial offices, the artillery regiment, and even the prison, used to have Tatar language learning societies. The societies were organized in order to teach Russian officials Tatar everyday language, writing, reading, to keep records and to be fluent in Tatar, both in oral and written form.
