SEMANTICS OF VERBS EXPRESSING EMOTIONS IN THE TATAR AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES

Abstract:

The aim of this article is to classify verbs expressing emotions in the Tatar and English languages on the basis of the traditional denotative concept. Continuous sampling from the dictionaries in each language yields more than 200 lexical units including the verbs with emotional meanings expressed in their secondary seme. Besides, paradigmatic (causativity / non-causativity) and syntagmatic characteristics of verbs are examined in each subgroup. The study reveals which verbs convey emotions in their secondary seme more often. Differences in expression of causativity and ability of the verbs to collocate are also identified. The investigation is illustrated with the examples from belles-lettres.

Key words:
