The article discusses the artistic portrayal of ethnic and national reality in Matvey Keldov’s stories. The stories have not been researched up to the present. Due to the author’s specific view on the epoch and human behavior, which differed from the normative stereotypes of those times, the works by M.Keldov were not understood and approved by his contemporaries. The writer was criticized for depicting “the people of the past” who were interpreted at that time as “socially unaccepted”.
