THEME OF CRUELTY AND MASS VIOLENCE AT SCHOOL IN VOLKER SCHMIDT AND GEORG STAUDACHER’S PLAY «THE COMA»
Abstract:
The play «The Coma» is based on real events and documents – the chain of murders in schools in the USA and Germany. Each case is thoroughly investigated, but the society feels helpless when facing this outburst of cruelty, overwhelmed with guilt for the death of the innocent. Schmidt and Staudacher show the background events preceding the crimes, and raise the main question: why do such things happen?
