FAMILY STORY TURNED INTO A NOVEL: PH.ROTH’S PATRIMONY

Abstract: 

Philip Roth’s novel Patrimony (1991) has a subtitle – A True Story. The author tells the story of his father Herman Roth’s last years, beginning with a terrible diagnosis and ending with his death. And this story of his father’s death becomes the autobiography of Roth himself, which is understandable as the author gets more and more intimately involved with his father's living and dying.
