MODIFICATION OF THE CLASSICAL «BILDUNGSROMAN» IN THE «CAMP» MEMOIR PROSE

Abstract:

Imre Kertesz’s ˝The Unfortunate˝ was written 25 years after the events described in the novel. The author’s concentration camp experience during World War II is in the centre of the narration. The story is built according to the autobiographical principles. The author’s personal intonation is predominant. The plot correlates with the genre laws. However, the image of the narrator redoubles with the events developing (the mature investigator under the teenager’s mask). Kertesz goes beyond the frames of non-fiction by using the elements of adventurous and genre fiction.

Key words:

Imre Kertesz, biography, Bildungsroman, the image of the narrator.
