FIRST RUSSIAN NOVEL ABOUT THE CAUCASUS «BLACK YEAR, OR THE MOUNTAIN PRINCES» BY V.T.NAREZHNY

Abstract: 

This article analyzes “The Black Year or the Mountain Princes”, the novel by V.Narezhny, in terms of the Caucasian myth of Russian classical literature. The basic concept of the article is that the Enlightenment novel, written on a satirical basis, pushes the documentary topography of the Caucasus and the prototypes of the characters into the background. V.Narezhny does not depict the beauty of the Caucasus, the local color is not to be found in this work of his.
