IMPLEMENTATION OF THE LANGUAGE POLICY AND THE WAYS OF DECREASING THE LANGUAGE ASYMMETRY IN THE REPUBLIC OF TATARSTAN

Abstract: 

The article deals with the study of Russian-Tatar bilingualism in the Republic of Tatarstan, and the gradual process of overcoming the language asymmetry (when Russian is an only language of interethnic communication). Introduction of the Tatar language and literature in the school curriculum for all ethnic groups in 1992 played a positive role in this process. In 2012 the Institute of Philology and Arts of Kazan Federal University started the Tatar language course. The course was in great demand, and it was highly appreciated by the students. The study is based on the data of the sociological research (2006 – 2012).
